That's quite extraordinary, William. I assume by now that you've been reading up on her online. The two main sources of lore about her are the Kojiki and the Nihongi, which are collections of Japanese mythology compiled in the 8th century. Both have free translations available online.

Now also happens to be when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Japan. I've been leading tours of tourists in Kyoto recently, and recounting the tale of why humans have a short but beautiful lifespan (because Ninigi, who I think could be plausibly seen as a sort of Japanese Adam figure, chose to wed Konohanasakuyahime-no-Mikoto but not her homely immortal sister, Iwanagahime-no-Mikoto, a rock goddess).
