You're right that it could be something astral--a sort of cursed part of the highway, especially if the causes are clearly different.

I just received this from Julian Gresser, an environmental lawyer. I haven't had time to read through it, but apparently cell towers have been known to cause fires.

In fact, it's my first time to see this addressed, but I am surprised I haven't heard this brought up before, aside from the Japanese documentary about strange fires at a factory a long time ago.
