I wrote you and your father's realios and locations into my list. I don't think the gods are particular, but in Shinto they always ask for your full name, address and age for prayers, so where I know those bits of information, I stick them in. I think it is just custom and a way to reassure people that the gods will know who the supplicant is. Thus I respect anonymity as well. Also, I use a sacred fire to burn old lists and prayers. Only the gods need to know.

You recall when we were at Kompira--did they tell you about the shaku having a front and back? My mentor gave me a shaku he had made, and we examined it together. One side had a little knot in the wood. That's the back, he said. And the way you use a shaku in ceremonies, you keep one side of it to yourself or face down. This view of the shaku sprung up at Kompira Honkyo, and is not known elsewhere. But you see the moral lesson within it: when people come to you for help, you never reveal it to others. If they have a flaw, you keep that to yourself.
