I went out and performed the misogi as planned, though in the morning I was having doubts because we've had three days of rain and the river could have flooded, but I figured I'd go do what was possible. I take signs from the liturgy I recite and what words my attention is drawn to (as a result of fumbling them), but also from the everything around as I perform this, especially the water. Today, the normally clear blue river was turbid and higher than usual. Where I entered the river, it turned out to be over my head, which I take as a message to me, that I can't see what I'm getting into and could be swept away by the current. Beyond that, it went pleasantly. It was surprisingly warm today despite the rain, and the river was nice and cool. I was given three signs during that, and one more during my prayer of supplications.
